PARISH EVENTS & ANNOUNCEMENTS – 8 November

ANNOUNCEMENTS for the 32nd Week in Ordinary Time
Parish Office will be closed in observance of Veteran’s Day, Wednesday, November 11.
This weekend there will be a display of beautiful olivewood handmade carvings from the Holy Land in our church. These carvings are made by the Christians of Bethlehem who use them as their main source of income. Christians in the Holy Land used to be more than 37% of the population. They are less than 1% now. We must support our brothers and sisters in Bethlehem. YOU can support them by purchasing some of these beautiful carvings after Mass. For more information, please contact us at 202-302-5889 or visit www.BethlehemCarvings.org. Thank you in advance for all your help and support!
Concerts at Saint Bernadette presents the Unites States Navy Chamber Players, Friday, November 13, 7:30pm, in the Church. The event is free and there is a light reception following. Please join us.
The Knights of Columbus are asking for your support in filling a Box of Joy with presents like small toys, toiletries, and more for children in need. Boxes will be collected for delivery on the weekend of November 7 and 8.
Help us share the warmth this season by supporting children at North Springfield Elementary School with the gift of a new winter coat. They are requesting 50 coats for children in all grades. For your convenience you may use the Tap to Give plate on the back of the pew to check out our published list or check out the list here. Thank you for supporting our local Work of Mercy.
Our parish thrives because of the gifts and generosity of its members. We invite you to explore the many volunteer opportunities available and consider how you might share your time and talents in service to our parish community. Whether you want to just stick your toe in or jump in the pool, there is an activity that can bring out the best in you! Discover where God may be calling you to serve. Please visit the parish website for more information or complete an interest form HERE.
We are pleased to introduce Tap to Give, a convenient and secure way to make electronic donations through our ParishSoft Giving platform. To use the Tap to Give feature, simply tap your NFC-enabled smartphone or smart-watch on the Tap to Give device. Make sure NFC is enabled on your device. (Bluetooth is not required for NFC payments.) ParishSoft Giving supports both Apple Pay and Google Pay, making your donations fast, secure, and convenient. Happy 32nd Sunday of Ordinary Time! On November 10, we celebrate the feast of St. Leo the Great, also known as Pope Saint Leo I. St. Leo had a lot of firsts. He was the first pope to be given the title “the Great,” the first to be named Leo and the first to be buried in St. Peter’s Basilica. He was also known for strengthening the papacy and shaping Christian doctrine. His theological work, Tome of Leo, became foundational to the doctrine that Christ is one person with two natures, fully divine and fully human. You can watch his story here: https://watch.safeshare.tv/watch/189ff756-83d4-47c0-8234-8ca6783e7ecc
Children’s Liturgy of the Word - Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) is a program for 3-6 year olds. The children leave the 9am Mass with their catechists during the Liturgy of the Word so they can hear the Word of God at their level. Child-ren return to Mass during the offertory and worship with their families for the remainder of the Mass. The program is held most Sundays from September through July except holiday weekends.
Please remember there are no cellphones and electronic devices allowed in the classroom. Children should bring their book(s) in their clear plastic folder each week to class, and parents should check the folder weekly for assignments and information from the catechist. Class times on Tuesday and Wednesday are 6-7:15pm – please arrive and pick-up on time! Students arriving more than 15 minutes late will have to be signed in by a parent at door 1
Plan to join us on November 22 after the 9am Mass, in the school cafeteria for fellowship, hospitality, and kids’ activities! Come visit with other parish families while you enjoy coffee, juice, and doughnuts while your children do some fun activities with volunteers!
